Illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and destructive fishing are problems in Africa that need to be fixed. This is one of the goals of the Ocean Decade Africa Roadmap.

To solve the problem of IUU fishing and destructive fishing practices, it is important to find the scientific gaps and to collect and analyze more data on IUU fishing, destructive fishing, and their effects. It’s also important to have local communities help keep an eye out for bad fishing practices that hurt their livelihoods and fishing areas and bring them to light.
